Issues with Embedding YouTube Videos

Issue/Question

When I try to use VideoAnywhere or the YouTube Mashup, I'm unable to embed the desired video.

Cause

Google has deprecated OAuth 1.0 and Data API v2. Deprecation of OAuth 1.0 prevents recording Video Everywhere from Blackboard because the user’s authentication credentials are not passed to YouTube correctly. Deprecation of Data API v2 causes all searches performed using the YouTube Mashup to return a device support error video rather than the desired results. For more information click here.

Resolution

You can use the following steps as a work-around to either of these issues.

1. Record/locate video on YouTube.
2. Click the Share option below the video.
3. Click the Embed tab.
4. Copy the HTML code.
5. Within Blackboard (Content item, Assignment, Assessment, etc.), click the HTML button.
6. Paste the HTML embed code.
7. Click Update.
8. Click Submit.
