Viewing Attached Videos


I am unable to view audio and video files attached in my Blackboard course site.

When opening these attachments in Windows Media Player, I receive the error:

Windows Media Player cannot connect to server. The server name might not be correct, the server might not be available, or your proxy settings might not be correct.


  • Internet Explorer
    • Blackboard
      • Windows Media Player


When accessing opening files, Windows Media Player attempts to access the video URL directly, but it does not allow you to sign in and therefore access is denied.


Save the file to your local computer. In most browsers, you may do this by right-clicking on the link and selecting the option that says, Save target as..., Save link as..., or Save linked content as.... Once it has finished downloading open the file with your preferred media player.
