Attached Files Not Fully Displayed in Page


When I open an attached file in Blackboard, only a small portion of the document is displayed.


Web browsers will try to embed some files within the webpage. In some cases, the display size for the web page does not match the document.



To resolve this issue, download the file so that you may display it in its own window.

  1. Open the affected file in Blackboard.
  2. Click the link at the top of the page, where it says If this item does not open automatically you can open [File Name] here.
  3. Save the file to your computer and open it with a local program. Depending on the file type, it may open in a new browser tab or ask you where to save the file.


If your students report this issue, you may follow these steps to force your attached files to download every time.

  1. Hover your cursor over the attachment.
  2. Click the Chevron icon, and select Edit.
  3. On the Edit File page, scroll down to the File Options section.
  4. Next to the Open in new window option, select the Yes radio button.
  5. Click Submit.
