Reverting to a Previous Windows Version

Issue/Question

My computer was upgraded to Windows 10. How do I go back to my previous version of Windows?

Environment

  • Windows 10

Resolution

As of January 14, 2020, Microsoft Windows 7 is no longer supported by Microsoft or WKU ITS. For this reason, reverting back to Windows 7 is not recommended.

Method 1

  1. Click the  (Start Menu).
  2. Click  Settings.
  3. Click  Update & Security.
  4. Click Recovery.
  5. You will see Go back to Windows 7 or Go back to Windows 8.1.
  6. Click Get started.
  7. Complete the survey asking why you're reverting. You may simply select For another reason and click Next if you prefer.
  8. Your computer will then begin the process of reverting back to your previous version of Windows.

Method 2

Students currently enrolled or enrolled for a future term may bring their device to TopperTech if they do not wish to complete this process on their own. More information about TopperTech can be found here.
