Long Quotations May Not Be Marked Using the Blockquote Element

Issue/Question

Under the Accessibility Final Checks I receive the Potential Problem: Long quotations may not be marked using the blockquote element.

Environment

  • Omni CMS

Cause

Potential problems are either code that may cause errors or possible errors that cannot be automatically checked and require human review.

Omni CMS Final Checks look over all the code on a page and detect accessibility issues that do not meet WCAG 2.0 (Level AA) standards. It has detected that the page possibly contains a quote on your page that is not using the proper blockquote element. Using the correct blockquote formatting ensures that assistive technology can convey the text is a quotation.

Resolution

Check your page for any long quotations (around 40 words).  If there are any they will need to be replaced with the Quote Component.

  1. Check out the page if it is not already.
  2. Click the  Edit tab.
  3. Click the  Edit Button on the content area where the quote is located.
  4. Copy the quote text to your clipboard.
  5. Insert a Quote Component, by following these steps.
  6. Paste your text into the Quote field and save the component.
  7. Save the page.
  8. Click the Publish button to run the accessibility final check again. When the issue has been resolved it will no longer display in the accessibility check.
