Issue/Question
When opening a web site in Firefox, I see the following warning:
This Connection is Untrusted
You have asked Firefox to connect securely to <website>, but we can't confirm that your connection is secure.
Normally, when you try to connect securely, sites will present trusted identification to prove that you are going to the right place. However, this site's identity can't be verified.
Cause
Firefox has deemed the connection to the web page as untrusted, which can happen for a variety of reasons. In some cases, having an incorrect date and time on the computer can cause this problem. Some firewall programs may intercept a website's certificate and send their own instead, which can also lead to complications.
Resolution
If you do not trust the web page:
- Click on the Get me out of here! button to be returned to a secure site.
If you trust the web page (i.e., web pages at wku.edu):
- Click on the I Understand the Risks button.*
- Click Add Exception...
- Click Confirm Security Exception if the site can be trusted.
*If the I Understand the Risks button is missing then this page may be opened in an (i)frame. In that case try the right-click context menu and choose This Frame and then Open Frame in New Tab, and continue as above.
Note: The WKU IT Service Desk only recommends adding security exceptions for web sites on the WKU domain. If you are uncertain if the web page is trustworthy, please contact the ITS Service Desk.
