Hanging on Launch (Wolfram Mathematica)

Issue

Wolfram Mathematica hangs on launch and does not start up completely.

Cause

This issue can be caused by a problem with the user settings.

Resolution

Clear the personal settings and then restart the program. The method described below will save the old settings so they are not destroyed, but they will not be used by the program.

1. Click Start.
2. Click Run.
3. Type %APPDATA% in the open textbox, then click OK.
4. Right-click on the Mathematica folder, select Rename from the menu.
5. Name the folder Mathematica.old.
6. Restart Wolfram Mathematica.
