Stopping Compressed Files from Automatically Unzipping

Issue/Question

When I download a zip file, the computer automatically unzips it. How do I stop it, so I can keep the zip file compressed?

Cause

Safari has a default setting that opens safe files automatically after downloading. This affects files downloaded with any browser, not just Safari.

Resolution

1. Open Safari.
2. Click Safari in the title bar.
3. Select Preferences.
4. Select General.
5. Uncheck Open Safe Files After Downloading.
