Issue/Question

SPSS immediately crashes or does not open at all.

Environment

  • macOS

Cause

A configuration file (spssprod.inf) does not contain the correct daemonhost entry.

Resolution

  1. Open Finder.
  2. Select Applications.
  3. Open IBM > SPSS > Statistics > 23.
  4. Right-click SPSSStatistics.
  5. Select Show Package Contents.
  6. Open Contents > bin.
  7. Right-click SPSSPROD.INF.
  8. Select Open With > Other... .
  9. Select TextEdit.
  10. Click Open.
  11. Locate the line:
    DAEMONHOST=
  12. adjust the line to look like:
    DAEMONHOST=spss-lic.wku.edu
  13. Save the file.
  14. Re-Start IBM SPSS Statistics.
  15. It should receive a license from the key server.
