Resolution

To change the file extension of a file you must have File name extensions view enabled.  Also, you must rename the file to a compatible file type (e.g., changing a .jpeg to a .jpg or a .doc to a .docx) in order to prevent file from becoming unusable.

Enable File Name Extensions View

  1. Open File Explorer.
  2. Click View.
  3. Click Show.
  4. Click File Name Extensions.

Rename File Extension

  1. Right-click file.
  2. Select Rename.
  3. Replace existing file extension with new extension.
  4. Press Enter.
Note: A rename confirmation box will open.
  5. Click Yes.
