Setting Up Cisco Aironet for Remote Employees

Issue/Question

How do I setup the Cisco Aironet device for use with my phone off campus?

Environment

• Off Campus
  • Cisco Aironet

Cause

Employees that have a need for a WKU phone at a remote location, such as their home, will use a Cisco Aironet access point to simulate an on-campus connection.

Resolution

1. Plug in the power cable to the back of the Cisco Aironet device. The light on the top of the top of the device will illuminate/blink. If a light does not turn on, press the power button on the back of the device.
2. Connect a patch cable (Ethernet cable) from your home router or modem to the WAN port on the back of the Cisco Aironet device.
3. Connect a patch cable from the PSE-LAN1 port on the Cisco Aironet device to the  Network port on the  Cisco phone.
4. Wait a few minutes as a connection is established. The phone will boot up within 5 minutes.
