Desktop and Taskbar Missing

Issue/Question

The shortcuts, taskbar, and all the rest of Windows desktop is suddenly missing on my PC. I am also receiving the following error message: 

C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\systemprofile\Desktop is unavailable. If the location is on this PC, make sure the device or drive is connected or the disc is inserted, and then try again. If the location is on a network, make sure you're connected to the network or internet, and then try again. If the location still can't be found, it might have been moved or deleted.

Environment

• Microsoft Windows 10

Resolution

1. Open File Explorer.
2. On the View ribbon, check the box marked Hidden Items.
3. Navigate to C:\Users\Default.
4. Find and select the folder named Desktop.
5. Right-click the folder and select Copy.
6. Navigate to C:\Windows\system32\config\systemprofile.
7. Right-click inside this folder and select Paste.
8. Restart your PC.
