Mac Type Instructions
Notebooks:
  • MacBooks - All
  • MacBook Air - 2017 and earlier
  • MacBook Pro - 2017 and earlier
  1. Shut down the computer.
  2. Press Shift-Control-Option on the left side of the built-in keyboard, then press the power button.
  3. Hold these four keys/buttons for 10 seconds.
  4. Release all keys.
  5. Press the power button to turn on the Mac.
Notebooks with the T2 Chip:
  • MacBook Air 2018 and later
  • MacBook Pro 2018 and later

Method 1

  1. Shut down the computer.
  2. Press and hold the power button for 10 seconds.
  3. Release the power button.
  4. Wait 5 seconds.
  5. Press the power button to turn on the Mac.

Method 2

  1. Shut down the computer.
  2. Press and hold the right Shift, left Option, and left Control keys for 7 seconds.
  3. Then, while still holding the keys above, press and hold the power button for another 7 seconds.
  4. Release all keys.
  5. Wait 5 seconds.
  6. Press the power button to turn on the Mac.
Desktops:
  • iMac
  • Mac mini 2017 and earlier
  • Mac Pro 2013
  1. Shut down the computer.
  2. Unplug the power cord from the back of the Mac.
  3. Wait 15 seconds.
  4. Plug the power cord back in.
  5. Wait 5 seconds.
  6. Press the power button to turn on the Mac.

Desktops with the T2 Chip:

  • iMac Pro
  • Mac mini 2018 and later

  1. Shut down the computer.
  2. Press and hold the power button for 10 seconds.

  1. Shut down the computer.
  2. Unplug the power cord from the back of the Mac.
  3. Wait 15 seconds.
  4. Plug the power cord back in.
  5. Wait 5 seconds.
  6. Press the power button to turn on the Mac.
