How do I reset the SMC on my Mac?

Notebooks:
- MacBooks - All
- MacBook Air - 2017 and earlier
- MacBook Pro - 2017 and earlier

- Shut down the computer.
- Press Shift-Control-Option on the left side of the built-in keyboard, then press the power button.
- Hold these four keys/buttons for 10 seconds.
- Release all keys.
- Press the power button to turn on the Mac.

Notebooks with the T2 Chip:
- MacBook Air 2018 and later
- MacBook Pro 2018 and later

Method 1
- Shut down the computer.
- Press and hold the power button for 10 seconds.
- Release the power button.
- Wait 5 seconds.
- Press the power button to turn on the Mac.
Method 2
- Shut down the computer.
- Press and hold the right Shift, left Option, and left Control keys for 7 seconds.
- Then, while still holding the keys above, press and hold the power button for another 7 seconds.
- Release all keys.
- Wait 5 seconds.
- Press the power button to turn on the Mac.

- iMac
- Mac mini 2017 and earlier
- Mac Pro 2013

- Shut down the computer.
- Unplug the power cord from the back of the Mac.
- Wait 15 seconds.
- Plug the power cord back in.
- Wait 5 seconds.
- Press the power button to turn on the Mac.
