Issue/Question
I am having problems connecting to WKU Wi-Fi networks, what should I do?
Environment
- WKU-WIRELESS
- WKU-SECURE
- WKU-GUEST
Cause
There are several reasons you may be unable to connect to WKU Wi-Fi networks. Please see common troubleshooting steps outlined below.
Resolution
If your laptop will not connect to the network anywhere on campus after trying these steps, it may be best to have
WKU TopperTech assist in determining the cause. If you continue to experience problems, please contact the
ITS Service Desk or submit a service request by clicking the
Request Service button.
- Forget WKU network on your device:
- Open Settings.
- Tap WiFi.
- Tap and hold the undesired network.
- Tap Forget this Network.
- Open Settings.
- Tap Wi-Fi.
- Locate the network you no longer want to use.
- Tap (info) for that network.
- Tap Forget this Network.
- Tap Forget.
- Sign into Chromebook with account designated as owner.
- Click your account photo.
- Click Settings.
- In Network section, click Wi-Fi.
- Click Known networks.
- Find network you want to forget, then click More.
- Click Forget.
- Open System Settings.
- Click Wi-Fi.
- Click the three dots (. . .) next to network you wish to forget.
- Click Forget This Network.
- Click wireless network icon in system tray.
- Click Network Settings.
- Click Manage Wi-Fi Settings.
- Scroll down to Manage Known Networks section.
- Click wireless network you would like to forget.
- Click Forget.
- Click wireless network icon in system tray.
- Click Settings icon.
- On left side of Settings menu, click Network and Internet.
- Click < arrow to right of Wi-Fi on/off button.
- Click Manage Known Networks.
- Scroll down to Manage Known Networks section.
- Click Forget for network you wish to forget.
- Make sure your device is using DHCP:
Microsoft Windows Method 1
- Press Windows button in bottom left of screen.
- Type
cmd
into search bar.
- Press ENTER.
- Type
ipconfig /all
.
- Press ENTER.
- Identify your wireless adapter by description of each adapter.
- Ensure DHCP Enabled is set to Yes on adapter.
Microsoft Windows Method 2
- Right-click network icon in lower right of screen.
- Click Open Network and Sharing Center.
- Click Change adapter settings.
- Identify and double-click your wireless adapter.
- Click Properties.
- Double-click Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4).
- Ensure bullets next to Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically are selected.
- Click Apple in upper left corner.
- Click System Settings.
- Click Wi-Fi.
- Click Details next to network to which you are connected.
- Click TCP/IP tab.
- Ensure Configure IPv4 is set to Using DHCP.
- Restart device you are using and try to connect again.
