Issue/Question
I have sent/received an email that has a random attachment ending in .TXT on it.
Environment
Cause
The .TXT attachment occurs when a message is sent or recieved from a platform, such as a mobile phone or outside account, that has not properly encoded an email. Generally this happens when an attachment of any kind has been inserted into the body of the email and the text that follows after this attachment is then converted into a .TXT file attachment on the Exchange server.
Resolution
To reduce the chance of these attachments being randomly attributed to emails, make sure to include any and all attachments outside the body of the email, or place them at the very end of an email, even after signatures.
