File Explorer Freezing

Why does File Explorer sometimes run sluggishly or crash?

Environment

• Windows 11

Cause

Intermittent issues and crashing within File Explorer can often be resolved by clearing File Explorer History.

Resolution

1. Click Start. 
2. Type File Explorer Options and open application.
3. Click Clear in Privacy section.
4. Click OK.
5. Restart your machine.
