How do I re-enable sleep or hibernation on my computer?

Environment

  • Windows 11

Cause

An update to the computer, such as a drive update, may have caused the sleep or hibernation options to be deactivated. 

Resolution

  1. Click the  Windows button
  2. Type Control Panel.
  3. Press Enter.
  4. Search for Power Options in the search field on the top right of the window.
  5. Click Power Options.
  6. Select Choose what the power buttons do.
  7. Click the words in blue that say Change settings that are currently unavailable.
  8. Click the check box  next to the Shutdown settings that you want re-enabled.
