How do I print in color on my Mac?
Environment
- macOS
- Managed Print Service (MPS) Devices
Cause
Managed Print Service (MPS) devices are configured to print in black and white by default. To print in color, the settings need to be overridden.
Resolution
The Print dialog varies depending on from which app you are printing. Options should be similar but may not exactly match instructions below.
- Click File.
- Select Print.
- Locate a drop-down menu (likely around the middle of the window or toward the bottom).
Note: Often the drop-down menu will have the name of the app from which you want to print.
- From the drop-down menu, select Printer Options.
- Locate and select Printer Features.
- Locate Color Mode.
- Select Color.
- Click Print.
Create Preset to Quickly Color Print in the Future (Optional)
- Perform the steps above.
- Click Presets drop-down menu.
- Select Save Current Settings as Preset...
- Enter a recognizable name, such as Color.
- Click OK.
- Click Presets drop-down menu.
- Select Show Presets...
- Click to enable Reset Presets Menu to "Default Settings" After Printing.
- Click OK.
