I have a new iPhone and need to set up Microsoft Authenticator. How do I use my saved passkey to access my account?
Environment
Resolution
If you previously registered a passkey for your WKU Account and saved it in Apple iCloud Keychain or Google Password Manager, you can use that passkey to sign in and register Microsoft Authenticator on your new phone.
Follow instructions below for the password manager where your passkey is saved, and then follow the Set up Microsoft Authenticator steps at the end of this article.
Configuring Settings
- Sign in to your new iPhone with same Apple Account used to save your passkey.
- Tap Settings
- Tap your name.
- Tap iCloud.
- Tap Passwords.
- Tap Passwords & Keychain.
- Toggle Sync this iPhone to on.
- Within Settings, navigate to General
- Tap AutoFill & Passwords.
- Toggle AutoFill Passwords and Passkeys to on.
- Enable Passwords in AutoFill From.
Signing in with Passkey
- Navigate to My Sign-Ins in Safari on your iPhone.
- Enter WKU Account address.
- Verify identity using Face ID or iPhone passcode.
- Select Use Passkey.
- Select saved WKU passkey from Apple Passwords.
- Complete the verification prompts to sign in.
- Once signed in, follow Set Up Microsoft Authenticator section below to register the app on your new iPhone.
Configuring Settings
- Install or open Google Chrome on your new iPhone.
- Sign in to Chrome with same Google Account used to save your passkey.
- Tap Settings.
- Tap General.
- Tap AutoFill & Passwords.
- Toggle AutoFill Passwords and Passkeys to on.
- Toggle enable Chrome to on under AutoFill From.
- If prompted when using your passkey, enter your Google Password Manager PIN.
Signing in with Passkey
- Navigate to My Sign-Ins in Safari on your iPhone.
- Enter WKU Account address.
- Tap More from Chrome prompt.
- Tap Continue.
- Select login.microsoft.com passkey associated with your WKU Account.
- Complete verification prompts to sign in.
- Enter your Google Password Manager PIN, if requested.
- Once signed in, follow the Set Up Microsoft Authenticator section below to register the app on your new iPhone.
Set up Microsoft Authenticator
- Confirm Microsoft Authenticator app is installed on your new iPhone or download it from the App Store.
- In Safari, make sure you have already signed in to My Sign-Ins following steps above.
- Tap My Account.
- Tap Security info.
- Tap Add sign-in method.
- Select Microsoft Authenticator (third option).
- Tap Next until you see an option to Pair your account to the app by clicking this link.
- Tap Pair your account to the app by clicking this link.
- Verify your identity using Face ID or enter your iPhone passcode.
- You will receive a pop-up indicating Account Added Successfully.
- Microsoft Authenticator should now be configured to work with your new device.
