Presentation Guidelines for CPE’s Academic & Strategic Initiatives (ASI) Committee

Once a program proposal has been submitted and evaluated by CPE staff, the proposal goes before the ASI Committee. The ASI Committee is the standing committee at CPE that oversees key academic policies, academic program approval and review, and strategic higher education initiatives throughout the state. The ASI makes recommendations that are referred to the full CPE for approval.

When a program proposal has been placed on the ASI Committee agenda, representatives from the proposing institution are invited to present their proposal to the committee. The Provost’s Office will be notified when a proposal has been placed on the agenda, and a meeting link will be provided to the representative presenting the proposal.

There are strict requirements surrounding the content of the presentation. When addressing the ASI, the representative should highlight the following:

  1. The purpose of the program (the program’s objectives)

  1. The structure of the curriculum (discuss unique aspects and/or faculty expertise)

  1. How the program aligns with the Kentucky Graduate Profile

  1. How the program complements or supplements other programs at the university as well as similar programs at other institutions in the state

  1. Student market demand

  1. Financial sustainability

  1. Any other distinct elements of the proposed program

Please Note: You must limit your presentation to five minutes in length. If you exceed this limit, CPE staff may ask you to conclude your presentation.

Although not required, you may provide four or five PowerPoint slides to supplement your presentation. This is entirely optional, any given ASI Committee meeting will likely include presenters with and without PowerPoint slides. If you choose to include PowerPoint slides, please provide these to the Provost’s Office before the ASI meeting so that we can forward them to the appropriate contact at CPE.
