Materials to Gather

  • To ensure you have the latest template, please download the template associated with the Knowledge Base Article.
  • While the NOI does not require the entire program to be developed (courses, etc.), be prepared to explain the breakdown of the program including the total number of hours, concentrations, CIP code, faculty capacity, etc. before starting the NOI.
  • Identify comparable programs in Kentucky and outside Kentucky and collect evidence that the proposed program fills a meaningful gap.
  • Gather regional and Kentucky Gray DI scorecards, labor-market data for at least two relevant occupations, and details of any employer/stakeholder conversations. That request can be made by using the related service: Program and Market Demand.

How to write strong responses

Be specific enough that someone outside your discipline can understand what students will study, what WKU can support, what graduates can do, and why the program is needed. State facts, explain their significance, and identify who will do what. Avoid sharing futuristic language like, “the program could…” or “the program may…” Focus on what you can do with the program. Where a requirement depends on a placement, certification, or partner, describe the contingency if the ideal arrangement is unavailable.

Use a simple pattern for narrative questions: claim → supporting detail/evidence → what it means for students or the state. Distinguish commitments already secured from plans still being developed.

Do not skip questions. Provide a response to each question.
