Clearing Proxy Server Settings

Issue/Question

Why can't I access certain websites?

Environment

  • Windows 8

Cause

Either a user of the machine or software on the machine has configured it to use a proxy server.

Resolution

  1. Start Internet Explorer.
  2. Click (Tools).
  3. Select Internet Options.
  4. Click Connections.
  5. Click LAN settings.
  6. Ensure that the box next to Use a proxy server for your LAN option is not checked.
  7. Click OK.
  8. Click on Apply and then OK to complete the process.

Note: If the proxy settings continue to revert back to enabling a proxy, there could be an issue with the Registry. The machine will have to be reformatted in order to fix the issue.
