How can I remain safe while browsing the Internet?

Resolution

TopperTech has compiled a list of helpful information and tips to promote safe computing while at WKU.

Creating Strong Passwords

  1. Use passwords at least 10 characters in length.
  2. Use a mixture of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols.
  3. Use a phrase or word that is easy for you, but hard for others to guess.

Email Security

  1. WKU will never ask for your information, passwords, or account credentials via email.
  2. Treat unexpected emails cautiously.
  3. Never open attachments from someone you do not know.
  4. Refer to this article to report spam or phishing emails.

Downloading Files

  1. Only download files from trusted sources.
  2. Do not download or share copyrighted files such as music or movies.
  3. Do not enable file and print sharing on your computer. This can lead to others accessing your files or spreading viruses.
