Relaunching Finder

Instructions for relaunching macOS's Finder in event of an unresponsive computer.

Issue/Question

  • My Macintosh Computer is not responding. 

Environment

  • macOS
    • OS 10.1+

Resolution

  1. Save any open files, if at all possible.
  2. Press Command (⌘) + Option + Esc on your keyboard at the same time. 
  3. From the Force Quit menu that pops up, select Finder
  4. Click Relaunch
  5. A warning message will appear. Click Relaunch
  6. Close the Force Quit menu
