Is there a recommended time frame for replacing WKU-owned computers?
Cause
Computer hardware becomes less reliable and responsive as it ages, and manufacturer hardware warranties typically last three years from the purchase date. Once a computer falls outside of both its warranty and the supported model and operating system lists, ITS's ability to provide hardware and software support becomes limited.
Resolution
WKU ITS recommends replacing a WKU-owned computer approximately five years after its original purchase date if the computer is not already part of a regular departmental replacement cycle. Between five and seven years, a computer's hardware reliability and performance typically decline below the level needed for regular use.
