Issue/Question
What WKU networks do I have access to?
Resolution
Current WKU Students and Employees
You have multiple connection options:
- Wired Ethernet: If you have a desktop, laptop, gaming console, or smart TV, you can use a wired Ethernet cable to connect directly to our network in your room, office, or building commons area.
- WKU-WIRELESS: If you are on a mobile device or have a device with Wi-Fi capabilities, you can connect it to WKU-WIRELESS. Depending on the device, however, you may need to login with your NetID and password in a web browser. This is ideal for devices with multiple users.
- WKU-SECURE: If you are on a mobile device or have a device with Wi-Fi capabilities, you can connect it to WKU-SECURE. The device must be able to connect using WPA2 Enterprise, as you will need to provide your NetID and password before during the connection process. This is ideal for devices with a single user.
Alumni, Affiliates, and Other WKU Guests
You have multiple connection options:
- Wired Ethernet: If you have a desktop, laptop, gaming console, or smart TV, you can use a wired Ethernet cable to connect directly to our network in an office or building commons area.
- WKU-GUEST: If you are on a mobile device or have a device with Wi-Fi capabilities, you can connect it to WKU-GUEST. This is ideal for light internet browsing, such as checking email and is intended for short-term visitors.
- Guest Account: A WKU employee can create a temporary guest account here. This is ideal for extended visitors who may need access to student labs, classroom and conference room computers, or more robust wireless internet.
- Sponsored Account: A WKU employee can request a NetID account by contacting Human Resources to have the individual entered into our system as an affiliate. This is ideal for long-term visitors, such as Aramark or Sodexo employees that work predominately on WKU campuses, and may need access to WKU-owned computers, network shares, or a WKU-branded email address. The NetID will automatically be created 24-hours after Human Resources enables them as an affiliate.
