Toggling Compatibility Mode

Issue/Question

How do I toggle Compatibility View in Internet Explorer?

Environment

  • Internet Explorer

Cause

Compatibility View may fix problems such as out-of-place menus, images, or text on web sites that were designed for older web browsers. Compatibility View may also cause issues with current web sites such as Blackboard.

Resolution

WKU ITS no longer recommends or supports the use of Internet Explorer. For better results, use a web browser such as Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, or Safari.

For Internet Explorer through Version 10

To toggle Compatibility View on or off, click on the Compatibility View button (the broken page icon) on the right side of Internet Explorer's address bar.

For Internet Explorer Version 11+

  1. Click (Tools Gear Wheel).
  2. Select Compatibility View settings.
  3. The current webpage domain will be in the Add this website: field. If you want the site to be viewed in compatibility mode, click Add.
  4. If you do not want a site to be viewed in compatibility mode, select the address in the Websites you've added to Compatibility View: window and click Remove.
  5. Click Close.
  6. The current page will reload, using the view specified.
