Relocating a Phone Line

Issue/Question

I am moving offices on campus and I want to keep my same phone line and number. What do I need to do?

Resolution

Do not physically move the phone to a new location. A request must be submitted to the ITS Service Desk to ensure that 911 location information is updated to the correct location. Failure to do so will result in inaccurate location information for first responders.

Note the room number of your new office and verify whether or not there is currently a phone or fax line active in that location. Also, note the type of device, the extension, and the number label printed on the physical wall port that the phone plugs into.
