Disk Not Available for Time Machine Backups

Issue/Question

When I start my Mac, I get the following error message:

Time Machine couldn't complete the backup. The backup disk is not available.

Resolution

  1. Check that the drive is properly connected.
  2. Check that macOS has read/write access to the drive.
  3. Check that the drive has enough space.
