Setting Up Automatic Grade Drops in Blackboard Ultra

Issue/Question

How do I set up automatic grade dropping in Blackboard Ultra?

Environment

  • Blackboard
    • Ultra Course View Courses

Cause

An instructor may opt to have grades dropped automatically for students in a course for a number of assignment types, such as the lowest quiz score in a given semester.

Resolution

This process will only work if you have set up distinct Gradebook categories for items, such as quizzes, assignments, or discussion boards. Please see this article for instructions on setting up categories first.
  1. Log into Blackboard.
  2. Navigate to the course in question.
  3. Click the Gradebook tab.
  4. Click the gear in the upper-right corner to go to the Gradebook Settings
  5. Under the Overall Grade section, click Manage overall grade settings
  6. You will be taken to the calculation details page; click the tab for Points, Weighted, or Advanced (Advance is for custom grading rules). It should default to the Points selection.
  7. Next to each item you wish to have calculated in the students' grades, click the purple circle with the slash through it  so that it changes to black. This will enable to the items to be calculated.
  8. You may then click Edit calculation rules for the items you have enabled.
  9. Click the slider button to enable the Category Calculation Rule.
  10. Apply the settings as you would like for the category and click Continue to save this setting.
