Installing Milestone XProtect Smart Client (Windows)

Issue/Question

How do I install the Milestone XProtect Smart Client video surveillance software?

Environment

  • WKU-owned computer
    • Windows

Resolution

  1. Go to the installation page.
  2. Click All Languages.
  3. Save the executable file to a location on your computer.
  4. Run the file from the saved location you selected in step 3.
    Note:  You must save the file before opening it. Do not run the file before saving it to a location on your computer. If you are prompted for an administrator account, follow Prompting for Administrator Account instructions. 
  5. Choose your preferred language and click Continue.
  6. Click the checkbox next to I accept the terms in the license agreement.
  7. Click Continue.
  8. To select file location and product language, keep default selections and click Install.
  9. Once the software installation completes, click Close.
  10. Open the XProtect Smart Client shortcut from your Desktop.
  11. Specify the following options:
    1. For the Computer field, type: vs-man.wku.edu
    2. For the Authentication field, choose: Windows authentication (current user). You do not need to enter in your password to log in.
  12. Click Connect.
    Note:
    If you receive the following error message this means that you have not been provided access to log into the software: Failed to connect. Check the username and password

 Note: Only authorized users of WKU's video surveillance system will be able to successfully log in through this software. This system is only accessible from the WKU network.
