What can I do in order to remain safe while browsing the internet?
Resolution
TopperTech has compiled a list of helpful information and tips in order to promote safe computing while at WKU.
Creating Strong Passwords
- Use passwords that are at least 6 characters in length.
- Use a mixture of upper case and lower case letters, numbers and symbols.
- Use a phrase or word that is easy for you, but hard for others to guess.
Email Security
- WKU will never ask for your information, passwords, or account credentials via email.
- Treat unexpected emails cautiously.
- Never open attachments from someone you don't know.
- Send spam messages to spam@wku.edu.
- Send phishing scam messages to phish@wku.edu.
Downloading Files
- Only download files from trusted sources.
- Do not download or share copyrighted files such as music or movies.
- Do not enable file and print sharing on your computer. This can lead to others accessing your files or spreading viruses.
In order to help prevent or remove malware/spyware infections on your computer you can make use of the following free utilities which will aid in cleaning up your computer.

SUPERAntiSpyware - A program that works with your existing antivirus program to detect and remove adware and spyware programs. To download SUPERAntiSpyware visit their website, here.
