Restoring Deleted OneDrive Data

How do I recover files that have been removed or deleted from OneDrive?

Items are retained in OneDrive's Recycle Bin for 93 days. Files removed from OneDrive beyond that cannot be restored.

Recovering Individual Files

  1. Go to the OneDrive website.
  2. Sign in with your WKU email address and password.
  3. Click Recycle Bin.
  4. Select the files or folders you want to restore by pointing to each item and clicking the circle check box that appears.
  5. Click  Restore.

Recovering Files En Masse

If numerous files were deleted, overwritten, corrupted, or infected by malware, you can restore your entire OneDrive to a previous time.
  1. Go to the OneDrive website.
  2. Sign in with your WKU email address and password.
  3. Click (Settings).
  4. Select Restore your OneDrive.
  5. On the Restore page, click the Select a date dropdown list and choose when you would like to restore from.
Note: If you're restoring your files after automatic ransomware detection, a suggested restore date will be filled in for you.
  6. Use the activity chart and activity feed to review the recent activities that you want to undo.
  7. If you selected Custom date and time, select the earliest activity that you want to undo. When you select an activity, all other activities that occurred after that are selected automatically.
Note: Before you select Restore, scroll to the top of the activity feed to review all the activities you are about to undo. When you pick a day in the activity chart, the more recent activities are hidden in the feed, but they're still selected when you select an activity.
  8. Select Restore. This action will undo all the activities you selected.
  9. Your OneDrive will be restored to the state it was in before the first activity you selected.
