Accessing Microsoft Copilot

Issue/Question

How do I access Microsoft Copilot?

Environment

  • Microsoft Copilot

Resolution

Anyone may freely utilize Microsoft Copilot via Bing chat.

WKU students and employees with Office 365 (A1, A3, or A5), Microsoft 365 (A1, A3, or A5), or Student Use Benefit licenses receive the additional benefit of Commercial Data Protection when they login to Copilot using their WKU email.

  1. Navigate to Microsoft Copilot via Bing chat.
  2. Click Sign In.
  3. Select Sign in with a work or school account.

You can confirm Commercial Data Protection is in force on your account if you see a green "Your personal and company data are protected in this chat" note at the bottom after logging in.

Commercial Data Protection means the information you provide the AI should not be used to train the AI and be shared with others.  This can be important for protecting your personal or WKU research or intellectual property.  It is recommended you do not feed information into an AI that is not already public because WKU has no control over what is done with that data once submitted.

Copilot for Microsoft 365, which allows you to utilize Copilot integrated into your Office applications is not provided by WKU for free.  Employees may opt to pay the monthly subscription to enable this functionality via an online request
