Testing Audio During a Zoom Meeting

Issue/Question

I have already joined a Zoom meeting, but I would like to test the audio input/output on my device.

Environment

  • Zoom

Resolution

These instructions are written specifically for adjusting audio settings during an ongoing Zoom meeting.
  1. Confirm audio icon in bottom left toolbar is labeled Mute and does not display red slash.
  2. Click up arrow ( ^ ) next to audio icon.
  3. Click Audio Settings.
  4. In Speaker section, click Test Speaker. If sound is not heard, select a different speaker from drop-down menu or adjust volume.
  5. In Microphone section, observe green input level bar to confirm audio is detected.
  6. Select Test Mic.
  7. Speak into microphone, then click Stop Recording to play back audio. If audio is not heard, select a different microphone from drop-down menu or adjust input level.
  8. Select Automatically adjust microphone settings if automatic input adjustment is needed.

Note: If you are on a Mac and are still having difficulty accessing your built-in mic, check your operating system permissions to confirm that Zoom has access to the mic

Note: If you are using Windows and are still having difficulty accessing your built-in mic, Windows has a privacy feature that may block Zoom from using the mic. Learn more about this feature and how to allow Zoom access to your mic.
