Connecting Xbox One to Internet

How do I connect my Xbox One to the internet?

Environment

  • Xbox One

Resolution

 WKU ITS recommends using a wired connection to get the best network connection experience.

Wired Connection

  1. Ensure that your Xbox has been set to Automatic for DHCP by following these steps first: 
    1. Press the Menu button on the controller. 
    2. Select Settings
    3. Select Network
    4. Select Advanced Settings
    5. Select IP Settings
    6. Select DHCP Settings
    7. Select Automatic
  2. Plug in the ethernet cable into your console and into the network port on the wall. You should receive an internet connection.
  3. If you are unable to get an internet connection, restart your console.
  4. If you are still unable to get an internet connection, please submit an online request or contact the ITS Service Desk.

Wi-Fi Connection

  1. Press the Menu button on the controller.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Select Network.
  4. Select Set up wireless network.
  5. Select WKU-WIRELESS.
  6. You should now be connected to WKU-WIRELESS. If you are still unable to use the wireless network successfully please locate the MAC address. Follow the steps below to locate the MAC address:
    Note: The Xbox One will have a different address for the wired and wireless adapter.
    1. Press the Menu button on the controller.
    2. Select Settings.
    3. Select Network.
    4. Select Advanced Settings.
    5. The MAC address will be displayed on the right side.
    6. With your MAC address ready, please submit an online request or contact the ITS Service Desk.
