Issue/Question
How do I use Follow-Me Printing print, copy, and other device functions?
Environment
- Ricoh Managed Print Services (MPS)
Cause
Follow-Me Printing is currently in a pilot stage. It is currently unavailable on mobile devices (Apple, Android, Chromebook, and so on).
These printer(s) are part of Follow-Me Printing:
- JRH 350 (within TSS-Endpoint Services) Ricoh MP C2004ex MFD (color) with new install name MPS PILOT FOLLOW ME PRINTING (Windows & Mac)
- On Windows devices original printer name is MPS-RICOHMPC2004EX-JRH-350 on ps.
- On Mac devices original printer name is MPS Ricoh MP C2004EX JRH-350.
These ITS client devices are part of Follow-Me Printing:
- WKU ITS employees' ITS-managed Windows & Mac computers
- Personal/unmanaged devices (only if you have manually installed one of the original printers above)
Resolution
If you have questions or issues reach out via Teams to Scott Copus (Windows) or Kurt Fattic (Mac).
Overview of How Follow-Me Printing Works
- Submit documents to single Follow-Me network printer (a.k.a., queue) instead of a specific printer.
- Walk up to any associated MPS Follow-Me Printing device (listed above).
- Tap your WKU ID card on card reader to log in.
- Release your pending print jobs, make copies, scan, and so forth (instructions below).
Installing Follow-Me Printer
During pilot, you must use MPS PILOT FOLLOW ME PRINTING to send documents to the printers listed in Cause above. If the original printer was already installed, that method will not work during the pilot.
The MPS PILOT FOLLOW ME PRINTING printer should already be installed on managed Windows and Mac devices of all WKU TSS employees. Other ITS departments' employees must manually install this new printer (see below).
If you do not see this printer installed on your computer (or you are using a personal or unmanaged device), you can install this printer manually:
- Grant yourself administrator rights.
- Click (Start).
- Search for \\PS2 and press ENTER.
- Double click Follow-Me Printer (ex., MPS PILOT FOLLOW ME PRINTING).
- Type your credentials, if prompted.
- Click Next.
Using Follow-Me Print Features
To reduce toner and paper usage, documents default print grayscale (B&W) and 2-sided (duplex); however, you can switch to color and/or 1-sided at the printer screen by unchecking a couple checkboxes. See the Release Print Jobs section below for details.
- Print documents to MPS PILOT FOLLOW ME PRINTING printer.
- Walk up and tap your WKU ID card on the ID/badge card reader of any Follow-Me Print-enabled device.
