Issue/Question
Why do I get the following error when using the File Explorer Preview Pane with files located on the P:, S:, or U: network drives?
The file you are attempting to preview could harm your computer. If you trust the file and the source you received it from, open it to view its contents.
Cause
Windows security settings now prevent the ability to use the preview pane on files located on network drives or downloaded from network drives.
Resolution
There is no longer a way to utilize the preview pane on files located on a network drive.
If a file is downloaded from the network drive to your local hard drive, you can enable the preview pane for that file by doing the following steps:
- Right-click file.
- Click Properties.
- At bottom of General tab, check Unblock.
- Click Apply.
Note: It can several minutes for this selection to process and preview begin working for the file.
