Using Custom DNS Providers (macOS)

Issue/Question

How do I change DNS providers on my Mac?

Environment

  • macOS

Resolution

If the computer is owned by Western, the first or second DNS provider must be one of the following WKU DNS entries:
161.6.94.105
161.6.94.106
52.25.213.14
Without one of the above entries, you may not be able to log into your computer and/or connect to networked-drives (personal, shared, and secure) nor use departmental printers.
  1. Click (Apple Menu).
  2. Select System Preferences... .
  3. Click Network.
  4. Click Advanced... .
  5. Click DNS.
  6. Click under the DNS Servers: column.
  7. Enter the desired DNS provider address.
  8. Click OK.
