Changing Network Connection Priority (Windows)

Issue/Question

My computer is connecting to Wi-Fi instead of Ethernet or vice-versa. 

Environment

  • Windows 10

Cause

Priority order for the connections is incorrect.

Resolution

  1. Press the  Windows Key + X.
  2. Select Network Connections from the menu.
  3. Press the Alt Key.
  4. Select Advanced.
  5. Select Advanced Settings.
  6. In the Adapters and Bindings tab, select the desired primary connection and move it to the top of the menu using the green arrows to the right.
  7. Click OK.
    Note: If you are trying to make a specific wireless connection have priority above other wireless connections,
    1. Click on the Wi-Fi icon.
    2. Select the network.
    3. Check Connect Automatically.
    4. Make sure this option is unchecked on other available connections.
    5. This should make your computer automatically connect to the desired selection when it is available.
