Turning Auto-Rotate On or Off

Issue/Question

My screen is not rotating when I want it to, or rotating when I don't want it to. How do I change the Auto-Rotate setting?

Environment

  • Windows 10

Cause

If your device is designed to rotate the display automatically as you turn it, what you see on the screen will be always be right-side up.

Resolution

  1. Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, or select the Action Center notification icon in the taskbar.
  2. If the Rotation Lock tile is highlighted, auto-rotation is locked and the screen will not rotate.
  3. Tap or click Rotation Lock to unlock auto-rotation, enabling the display to rotate as you turn the device.
Note: If Rotation Lock is grayed out, you may have to remove attached peripherals, such as a keyboard.
