Word 365 Storing Documents in Cloud Storage

Issue/Question

I can open and edit Word documents but cannot upload them to Blackboard or attach them in emails.

Environment

  • Microsoft Office 365
    • Microsoft Word

Cause

Office 365 has an AutoSave feature, which will frequently save your documents. By default, the feature saves the documents to cloud storage. 

Resolution

  1. Open the document in Word 365. 
  2. Ensure the AutoSave feature is turned off.

Note: Turning this off may prompt for you to save the file. This will save it to your computer and allow you to select it as an item to upload.
