Why is my web cam only showing a black image?

Cause

There may be a web cam cover that is preventing your camera from capturing video, or it may be unplugged.

Resolution

1. For an external camera, ensure that the camera is plugged in securely.
2. Search for a web cam cover on the lens of the camera, or around the lens on your machine. 
3. Open the camera slider to reveal the lens, if closed. 
4. Confirm the device has been enabled in the privacy settings of your computer.
5. Reboot the machine to restart any unresponsive drivers.
