Checking for Windows Updates

How do I check if my computer needs to update, or updates are installed?

Environment

• Windows

Resolution

1. Click Start. 
2. ClickSettings.
3. Click  Windows Update.
4. Review the status message at the top of the window.
   1. You're up to date - updates are installed.
   2. Updates available - updates are pending installation.
5. To verify the latest updates are installed, click Update history.
6. Review the update categories and details of each update.
   1. Quality Updates - monthly updates released on the second Tuesday of every month. Verify most recent update for year and month (e.g. 2026-02 Cumulative Update for Windows 11).
   2. Definition Updates
   3. Other Updates
