Playing Unsupported Video Formats

Why can't my Mac computer play a particular video format?

Environment

  • macOS

Cause

macOS does not recognize some file extensions and video containers.

Resolution

  1. Navigate to https://www.videolan.org/vlc/.
  2. Click Download VLC​.
  3. Open the downloaded file.
  4. Drag the VLC application to the Applications folder.
