Issue/Question
How do I reuse questions that were part of a previous test, but not a question pool?
Resolution
This article assumes that a new test has already been created; if you have not created the new test, do so before following these instructions.
- Open your Blackboard course site.
- In the Course Management section, expand the Control Panel.
- Expand the Course Tools section, then click Tests, Surveys, and Pools.
- Click Tests.
- Click the Options button next to the test you would like to add questions to, then click Edit.
- Hold your cursor over the Reuse Question button on the toolbar.
- Choose how you would like the questions to be inserted, Create Question Set, Create Random Block, or Find Questions.
- Question Set: A question set allows the instructor to choose specific questions to include in the question set. The instructor may then choose to display all questions within the question set or fewer questions to be chosen at random from the question set. Example: The instructor may hand-pick 20 questions to include in a question set and display only 10 of them. When a student takes the exam, 10 questions will be chosen at random from the question set. These questions will be different for each student and each exam attempt.
- Random Block: A random block allows the instructor to choose all or specific types of questions from one or more question pools. The instructor may then choose to display all questions within the random block or fewer questions to be chosen at random from the random block. Example: The instructor may choose to include only True/False questions from two question pools, one for Chapter 1 and another for Chapter 2. The random block may contain 20 questions, but the instructor may choose to display only 10 of them. When a student takes the exam, 10 questions will be chosen at random from the random block of True/False questions from Chapter 1 and Chapter 2. These questions will be different for each student and each exam attempt.
- Specific Questions: The Find Questions option allows instructors to hand pick specific questions to include in the exam; these questions may be of any type from any question pool as they are manually selected.
- A pop-up window will appear.
- Click Tests in the left column.
- Check the box next to the name of the test you would like to copy questions from; the questions used in that test will be displayed on the right. Alternatively, you may click All Tests to display all test questions used in the course.
- If you chose the Find Questions option earlier, you will see two radio buttons above the test questions in the right column.
- Copy selected questions: Creates a new instance of each question. If the question is edited, the change will only affect the current test.
- Link to original questions: Creates a reference to the original question. If the original question is changed, it will affect all tests that reference the question. This allows corrects to be made once for all tests.
- In the right column, check the box next to each question you would like to add to the test. You may select multiple questions at once.
- Once you have selected all of the questions you would like to insert, click Submit.
