Why is [Compatibility Mode] displayed after my document's name in the title bar?

Environment

• Microsoft 365

Cause

The document you are viewing is saved as an older file type that is compatible with a previous version of Microsoft 365 compared to the version you are using.

Resolution

Converting the file to the latest format enables more features and makes the [Compatibility Mode] message disappear. Files may be converted to the latest format by following these steps:

1. Open the file.
2. Click File.
3. Click Info.
4. Click the Convert button.

 Note: If the file is converted to the latest format, it can no longer be opened in older versions of Microsoft 365.
