Creating Local macOS Accounts

Issue/Question

How do I create an account for a new user on a Mac?

Cause

Departmental Macs shared by multiple users (e.g. student workers, part-time employees, MacBook for traveling) require a local account be created for each person who will use it.

Resolution

Departmental Macs are initially setup for someone in the department's main office. That person will need to log onto the device.
  1. Open Self-Service.
  2. Select Your Scripts.
  3. Locate Create User and click Execute Now.
  4. You will be guided through the steps necessary to create an account.
    Note: You may be prompted to use the Privileges app to temporarily grant your account administrator rights.
  5. Once complete, the new user will need to log into the device and sync their computer account with their WKU account credentials using the Kerberos SSO Utility. See article Syncing Mac to Log In with New Password.
