Edge Opening PDFs


When I open a PDF, the web browser Edge opens.


Edge is the default viewer for PDFs in Windows 10. Even if other PDF programs are installed, system updates may cause Edge to be reset at the default viewer.


  1. Click  (Start).
  2. Click  (Settings).
  3. Click  Apps.
  4. In the left column, click  Default apps.
  5. Click Set defaults by app.
  6. Locate and select your preferred PDF viewer/editor.
  7. Click  Set this program as default.
  8. Click OK.

Note: If you are browsing with Edge and click a link to a PDF, it will display the file in Edge. If you prefer a different program, you will need to right-click the link and save it. Then you can open the download file with the program.
