Office 2016 Applications Displaying Incorrectly

Issue/Question

Office is displaying random boxes and lines or jumbled text on my screen.

Environment

  • Windows 10
  • Office 2016

Cause

A potential drive update or driver conflict with the computer's display can cause the Microsoft Office applications to display erratically or cause screen artifacts to appear distorting the display. 

Resolution

  1. Open the application that was displaying improperly. 
  2. Click File. 
  3. Select Options. 
  4. Select the Advanced tab. 
  5. Under the Display section, check the box labeled Disable hardware graphics acceleration. 
  6. Click OK.
